I just started an exercise
program. Why have I gained weight?
Different biochemical individuals are born with different abilities to digest certain foods. Consequently, they will also have different cravings. What a person lacks in enzymes will determine what they need in food. If they cannot break down a certain food, then their body will crave that nourishment even more. However, regardless of how much they eat of it, they will not benefit from it. If they are unable to properly digest their food, then the more of it they eat, the more of it they will crave.
Some of the reasons you might retain fluids include poor diet (i.e. high salt or sugar intake), poor kidney function, or poor mineral balance. The use of contraceptive pills, hormone replacement therapy, and the abuse of drugs such as laxatives or diuretics can influence fluid retention, as can any inhibition of blood flow, varicose veins and/or pregnancy. You must remember the importance of water to flush the system of toxins and help regulate the response of every organ in the body. Most people who retain fluid are actually not drinking enough water!
Very often, when people begin a weight loss program, they also add exercise to the blend. This, of course, is an excellent thing to do. When you start to build muscle, you will naturally weigh more, since muscle weighs more than fat. This is why you need to look at how your clothes are fitting as the real indicator. Are you actually losing inches in the right places? Keep on exercising! Your body will repay you for your efforts.
